Suspect SCI…

More specifically, we should suspect spinal cord injury in the following circumstances (amongst others):

• a high-speed motor vehicle or bike accident especially, where rollover or ejection occurs
• accidents involving diving into water
• falls from a height, where usually the higher the fall the more likely damage is to occur
• cave-ins, especially those involving entrapment where were a person is crushed under rocks
• whenever there is injury to the head (whatever the cause)
• massive and multiple trauma, particularly involving extreme forces including motor vehicle accidents, gunshot wounds, explosions etc.
• lightning strikes when the body may be propelled a great distance
• Occurrences known to cause spinal cord injury especially those in contact sports
