“Packaging” the injured person

 In

Once the spine has been immobilised by the cervical collar, the spineboard is introduced (either by using the log-roll manoeuvre or a split spineboard that can be positioned without log-rolling the injured person) and it’s straps firmly secured.

During the process of managing the injured person in this early stage, is it may be necessary to check the straps on multiple occasions to ensure that they have not become loose.

Now the headbed is introduced to add third point of immobilisation (above as well as below and at the site of injury): the injured person is now “packaged” and can be safely moved from the site of the initial injury if that is required or transferred to an ambulance.

If there is no reason to move the injured person they should be left where they are.
